TEACHING GIFTED CHILDREN THROUGH DRAMA AND NURSERY RHYMES
TEDDY BEAR
I would teach the gifted children (1. grade) which I really love and had to the possibility visit their lessons which were very unusual and unique. I would teach by heart with a little humour and fun so I hope that children will enjoy my lessons and obtain some knowledge and competence.

TEDDY BEAR, TEDDY BEAR
Teddy bear is the most favourite character or toy for children. They consider him for friend or partner who is always at hand and help them in everyday lives.
ACTIVITY 1: To learn the children about as many nursery rhyme´s titles with
animals and toys as you can choose
As first of all, I would ask the children how many nursery rhymes where are the animals known in Slovak language. The answers could be: Varila myšička kašičku, Kujem kujem podkovičku,koníkovi na nožičku, Ťap, ťap, ťapušky, išli mačky na hrušky etc.
After this brainstorming I would start with english nursery rhymes. The main task would be to learn the titles of rhymes with assistance of pictures (see the apendix no. 1). Then I would try to repeat these nursery rhyme´s titles in this way:
- Repeat them once more and finally write them on the blackboard
- Children listen my playing the piano
- If they have an interest, they can sing with me or can imitate some animals or draw them
ACTIVITY 2: SOLVING THE PUZZLE WITH TEDDY BEAR HERO
After this introduction I would orient only for rhyme called Teddy bear, Teddy bear. The main task would be to solve the puzzle which can be cutting in pieces (see the apendix no. 2). / A teacher must decide If the puzzle should have 5,10,15 or more pieces/. I would decide for 40 pieces because of great talent of gifted children. Children would be grouped into 3 groups. During this „solving“ , the nursery melodies would be listened by children (but it is not necessary, it depends on teacher´s fantasy J ).
ACTIVITY 3: THE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: „ IF I WAS A TEDDY BEAR“
I would tell the children that now they are teddy bears, the small plush animals which like honey, friendship with small children and excersising. As a right teddy bear they should seem furry. So I would get them some brown pullovers or costumes and the play can start in this way:
1. Children have to touch the ground because in the nursery rhyme the brave bear must do it to be not lazy
2. Children have to turn around
3. Pick up the shoe is the another activity to be done
4. Another interesting activity is to go upstairs. Upstairs in my class would be the chair. Children have to step to chair.
5. Say your prayers like be healthy, be with family happy or have a big car or doll. These
are the most expressive by children´s soul
6. Finally children have to blow out the light in the class and lie on the desk and say each other
„good night“
At the end of lesson I would tell the children that they have to retell this great adventure to their teddy bears, toys or parents as well.
